“THE Queensland Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee will today consider a 10-volume audit of the 18-year-old Heiner controversy together with a 55-page request the matter again be reviewed.
David Rofe QC, the Sydney-based author of the voluminous audit, said yesterday its contents, dealing with what became notorious as the Shreddergate affair, were “dynamite”.
He said it was his view the Heiner documents were shredded “illegally and secretly and subsequently lies were told about the shredding”.
“There are nine or 10 volumes of material that are required to be properly considered to determine whether a prima facie case exists against 65 or so still living members of the former Parliaments and the current Parliament, some of the judicial officers and leading public servants and no doubt some questions need to be asked of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd,” he said.
Mr. Rudd was the chief of staff for Wayne Goss who was premier at the time of the Heiner Inquiry which was formed to look into allegations of abuse at the John Oxley Youth Detention Centre.
Former premier Peter Beattie last year dismissed a call to reinvestigate the matter.”

"Rudd link to CMC target"

PRIME-Minister Kevin Rudd and a former Beattie government bureaucrat being investigated by the Criminal and Misconduct Commission appeared together in an election campaign.
Mr. Rudd used Scott Flavell and his family in a photograph for a campaign brochure promoting Labor's Tax and Better Family Payment Plan.
The CMC is investigating an allegation of official misconduct against Mr. Flavell, the former Department of Education and Training director-general, in 2005 and 2006.
Mr. Flavell has admitted to the CMC that he passed on to a Brisbane businessman a list of companies set to win lucrative training contacts before they had Cabinet approval.
The CMC hearing was told Mr. Flavell spent more than a year using government resources to help the businessman and other investors set up a private training company before joining the venture.
During a Budget estimates committee hearing last week, Education Minister Rod Welford accused Mr. Flavell of "reprehensible" conduct over the conflict of interest.
Mr. Flavell, a former member of the Labor Unity faction and a voter in Mr. Rudd's Griffith electorate, used to hold a senior position in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
He joined Mr. Rudd on the 2004 federal election campaign and helped him promote ALP policy by appearing in the campaign brochure.
Mr. Rudd, who was then shadow minister for foreign affairs, acknowledged the 2004 brochure's existence and the photograph with Mr. Flavell, but declined to elaborate.
"The Prime Minister has no recollection and there is no record of the Prime Minister meeting or speaking to the person in question (Mr Flavell) for the last four year," a spokesman said yesterday.
But the State Opposition, which first tabled the brochure in Parliament in September 2004, said Mr. Rudd must explain his "close links" with Mr. Flavell.
The CMC hearing resumes on August 28.
